Our Story
We are a family business that has been providing surveying services to the construction industry for over 50 years. It all started with Cyril Orchard, who built the company on simple but lasting principles: do good work, be fair with people, and always aim for high standards. Those ideas still guide us today.
Over the years, the business has grown to new places, new sectors, and new ways of working, but we have stayed true to what matters: being accurate in what we do, honest in how we do it, and dependable from start to finish. We take pride in getting the details right, offering clear advice, and building long-term relationships with clients who know they can count on us.
Rob Orchard has led the company for over 30 years, and in 2024, Charlotte Orchard joined as the third generation. As we look to the future, we are combining experience with new energy, using technology in smarter ways, and staying adaptable in a changing industry.
Cyril Orchard Group is the trading name of Cyril Orchard Management Limited, a regulated firm under the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

1973 – Founding
- Founder: Cyril Orchard
- Established Cyril Orchard Quantity Surveyors (later Cyril Orchard Partners) in Saltwood, Kent
- With experience from British Rail and Nuclear Electric, Cyril launched a private practice to deliver expert Quantity Surveying services.
1986 – Growth and Expansion
- Opened a second office in Haslemere, Surrey
1987 – Further Diversification and New Ventures
- Expansion into Telford with the take-over of the Quantity Department of Telford Development Corporation and introduction of Building Surveying services, which broadened the business’s scope, allowing participation in a wider array of construction projects.
1989 - Next Generation Joins
- Who: Rob Orchard (Cyril’s son)
- Role: Quantity Surveyor
- Joined with valuable experience from a nationwide developer based in Essex, reinforcing the family legacy.
1994 – 2014 – Gained ISO 9001:2008
- Awarded annually for reaching the standards set out in operational management
- 2005 - Awarded a Silver Award for the Royal Mail Property Holdings Supplier Recognition
- 2007 - Awarded Gold standard in the Royal Mail Group Property Supplier Recognition Award
2007 – Awarded The Millicent Kaye Trophy
- Awarded by Oswestry and Civic Society for The Conservation of Castle ruins and improved visitor facilities.
2000 – 2015
- Transitioned to Cyril Orchard Group to reflect a modern, multi-service practice
- Delivered services for high-profile clients, including work for the Royal Household which strengthened market reputation, aligning traditional values with evolving industry expectations.
2015 – 2025 – Gained ISO 9001:2015 certification
- Awarded annually for reaching the standards set out in operational management
2023
- Celebrated 50 years of Cyril Orchard Group
2024 – Third Generation Joins
- Charlotte Orchard, Cyril’s granddaughter
- Role: Trainee Quantity Surveyor
- Joined from a teaching background and is now training as a Quantity Surveyor.
2025 – Today
- A trusted, family-run consultancy of Chartered Quantity and Building Surveyors. Upholding a tradition of quality, customised care, and expert service to a wide array of construction clients.
