New Entrance Foyer for School House, Shrewsbury School

Employer’s Agent and Quantity Surveying Services

Shrewsbury School commissioned the construction of a new entrance foyer at School House Boarding House to improve accessibility and enhance the arrival experience for pupils, staff, and visitors.

The scheme was procured via a design and build contract, with preliminary concepts prepared by Arrol Architects. These were developed into Employer’s Requirements, incorporating key architectural and performance specifications, while allowing the successful contractor flexibility to deliver the final design.

Our involvement extended from the early design stages through to completion, ensuring the new facility aligned with the School’s aspirations and achieved the required quality standards.

Our Role

Cyril Orchard Group was appointed to provide Employer’s Agent and Quantity Surveying services for the scheme.

Our responsibilities included: • Preparing a comprehensive Employer’s Requirements document, coordinating information from the design team and specialist consultants • Advising on contractor selection and managing the tender process, including tender analysis and interviews • Providing cost planning and ongoing financial monitoring, supported by monthly valuations and regular financial reporting • Preparing and executing contract documentation, and issuing contract instructions throughout the works • Chairing progress meetings and monitoring contractor performance against the Employer’s Requirements • Undertaking site inspections at key stages to review quality and compliance with the agreed specification

Outcome

The new entrance foyer provides School House with a high-quality, functional, and welcoming access point, enhancing the boarding house environment. The project reflects Shrewsbury School’s commitment to investing in its facilities and enhancing the experience for its students.
