Lift Installation and Accessibility Upgrades
Quantity Surveying Services
Appointed as Quantity Surveyors for critical accessibility upgrades at St Michael’s and Hunt’s Cross stations in Liverpool, our role focused on enhancing step-free access for passengers across the network. The works formed part of a wider initiative by Merseyrail to modernise infrastructure and improve inclusivity.
Our Role
We oversaw the delivery of accessibility upgrades including the installation of two new lift shafts and supporting motor rooms. These required significant structural modifications to the existing platforms and buildings. A new steel footbridge and walkway system was constructed to link both lift shafts, replacing the original footbridge which was removed upon completion. The stepped ramp system was also reconfigured to support full accessibility.
- Major enabling works included extensive earthworks and platform widening at Platform 1 (Liverpool-bound) using a sheet-piled retaining wall system.
- New isolated foundations were constructed for the footbridge and walkways.
- Full M&E integration encompassed power, telecoms, drainage, CCTV, and wayfinding systems.
- Design responsibilities assigned to the contractor included lifts, sheet piling, steelwork connections, and external cladding.
- Targeted completion was March 2022, following final approval in May 2021.
