Cyril Orchard Group provided both quantity surveying services as well as CDM Principal Designer services to the refurbishment works of Chatham House which was originally built in 1797. In addition our project works included refurbishment of Clarendon House which was founded in 1905 and jointly these properties now form the Chatham and Clarendon Grammar School.
The project included the replacement of roofs, upgrade of the Arts Department, replacement of windows and maintenance works to the library.
Cyril Orchard Group worked closely with Claque Architects and contractors P.A Hollingworth and collectively delivered a project on programme and within budget.
The Hurst

The Hurst, Arvon’s third writing centre, is the former Shropshire home of the playwright John Osborne and was acquired by Arvon in 1998 with an Arts Council grant.
The works comprise alterations and refurbishment works to the Main House, the Clockhouse and Foyle Studio set in 30 acres in the Clun Valley. There is also a dovecote in the grounds. The buildings are all Grade II listed. The Clockhouse and the Foyle Studio have both been renovated and converted from former stables, the former to provide accommodation for course participants and tutors and the latter to provide workspace for the courses.
The top floor of the Main House was converted in 2002 to provide accommodation for course participants and tutors and parts of the ground and first floors provide living accommodation and office space for the Centre Directors. The majority of the Main House remains unconverted for Arvon’s use and is currently unoccupied.
After John Osborne’s death in 1994, Helen Osborne, John Osborne’s widow, lived there until her unexpected death in 2004, when it became available to Arvon.
Whittington Castle

Cyril Orchard Group was commissioned to provide both quantity surveying and CDM Co-ordinator services upon the refurbishment work and provision of new catering facilities at Whittington Castle from inception to completion of the project

St Peter & St Pauls Church

Cyril Orchard Group were employed to act as quantity surveyors for the project as well as preparing documentation and carrying out site inspections to comply with CDM regulations.
A full quantity surveying service was required which included preparation of the bills of quantities, issue of tender documents, tender reports and financial management/monitoring of contract monies through to completion. This included liaison with the client, architect and contractor to ensure the contract value was not exceeded.
The client also appointed Cyril Orchard Group to prepare all documentation and to carry out on site inspections to comply with the current construction, design and management regulations to assist the principal designer. This included pre-construction health & safety plan submission of the F10 notification to the health & safety executive, checking the contractors construction phase plan and carrying out site inspections throughout the project period.
